Events for August 1980

In the second half of 1980 mass worker strikes took the form of exploding initially in smaller industrial centers (Sanok, Mielec, Tczew), then in larger cities (Poznan, Lodz), culminating on the coast, where on Aug. 13, 1980 began a sit at the Gdansk shipyard. Solidarity strikes the majority of enterprises Coast, including the SSN, and the coal mine in Jastrzebie. Forced to call the state authorities have concluded an agreement with the strikers in Szczecin, Gdansk and Jastrzeb. Gdansk Agreement of August 31 contained the government's consent to the creation of independent trade unions. Committees of incorporation of the new compounds were created throughout the country on a massive scale.

September 17, 1980 at a meeting of representatives of the strike committees and foundation set up in Gdansk Solidarity and the National Conciliatory Commission President L. Walesa. September 22 passed the statute therefore, Oct. 24 made its initial registration in the regional court in Warsaw. Finally, the statutes were registered on Nov. 10, 1980.
At the time of registration of the Union had about 10 million members (80% of employees). Supreme authority was the Congress of Delegates, the executive held the National Coordinating Commission (KKP, from September 1981 the National Commission - KK) based in Gdansk. The compound has adopted a regional structure (38 regions and two districts).
